Gretchen Anderson scored her first goal of the season at 8:38 of the third period to force a 2-2 tie with Mercyhurst on Sunday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. It was the third time in Princeton's last four games that overtime was needed, and the Tigers are 1-1-1 in those games.
The Tigers, who claimed a 2-1 overtime win on Saturday afternoon, got on the board first when Angela Gooldy notched her team-leading fourth of the season at 9:15 of the first period on the power-play. Andrea Kilbourne won an offensive zone faceoff back to Gooldy on the point, who fired a slapshot for her third power-play goal of the season. Kilbourne's assist was her team-leading ninth point of the year.
Mercyhurst answered back and tied the game at 1-1 at 6:31 of the second period. With both sides skating a player down, Sara McDonald beat Princeton goaltender Megan Van Beusekom to score her seventh goal of the season. The Lakers took a 2-1 lead early in the third period when C.J. Ireland connected on the power-play. However, the lead was short-lived, as Anderson knotted the game up at 2-2 just 4:04 later. Anderson, playing in only her second game of the season after missing the first six games due to injury, was Princeton's leading scorer last season. She beat Mercyhurst goaltender Desi Clark with a rising shot form between the circles. Her goal was assisted by Annamarie Holmes and Gooldy.
Princeton continues its stretch of non-conference games this weekend at home, hosting Maine on Saturday and Northeastern on Sunday. Game time on both days is at 2:00 p.m.
