Salt Lake City - The United States women's Olympic hockey team defeated Finland in its game today in a dominating performance, 5-0. Andrea Kilbourne deflected a slapshot from U.S. defenseman Angela Ruggiero between the legs of the Finnish goaltender to net the Americans' fifth and final goal. The score came on the power play, with 5:42 remaining to play in the game.
With the victory - its 34th in a row - the United States team captured the #1 seed as it enters the medal round. The United States will play the loser of Saturday night's Canada-Sweden in the semifinals.
The only team the United States has ever lost to in international competition is Canada. But Finland earned bronze in Nagano '98 and expected to challenge the Americans. Nevertheless, the U.S. rolled to a convincing shutout victory.
