Women's Hockey To Host Vermont and Dartmouth

PRINCETON, N.J. - The regular season is winding down with just two weekends of action left, but the race for a berth in the ECAC North playoffs is heating up. Princeton, ranked No. 10 in the nation, will host Vermont on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. and No. 5 Dartmouth on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 4 p.m. in its final regular season games at Hobey Baker Rink.
Eight teams earn a berth in the league playoffs, with the top 4 seeds hosting a best-of-three game series on March 8-10. The winners of each quarterfinal series will advance to the 2002 ECAC JPMorganChase hockey championship, hosted by Dartmouth on March 16-17. Princeton enters the weekend in fourth place in the conference standings, one point behind Brown and St. Lawrence, and two points behind first-place Dartmouth
Vermont, in its first season at the Division I level, brings a 1-26-1, 0-14-0 ECAC North record into Friday night's meeting. The Tigers defeated the Catamounts 5-1 back on Jan. 6.
Saturday afternoon's showdown will pit Princeton against league-leading Dartmouth. The Tigers broke a three-game losing streak against the Big Green when they picked up a 3-1 win in Hanover on Jan. 5. Dartmouth leads the nation in goals per game (4.58) and brings junior Carly Haggard, who leads the nation in points per game (2.29), goals per game (1.12) and assists per game (1.17), with it. Princeton shut down that offense in its trip to Hanover, holding Haggard to just one goal. Megan Van Beusekom (So., Loretto, MN) posted 34 saves, while Gretchen Anderson (So., Natick, MA) registered two goals and and assist in the win. Anderson leads the team in scoring with 30 points (19g, 11a).
Princeton will honor its four seniors prior to the opening faceoff against Dartmouth. Aviva Grumet-Morris (Evanston, IL), Melissa Deland (Washington, DC), Jessica Fedderly (Wyoming, MN) and Wanda Mason (Lewiston, ME) will be playing in their last regular season game at Hobey Baker Rink on Saturday.
Princeton (14-6-3, 9-3-0 ECAC North) will close out the regular season with a huge pair of games at Brown and Harvard on March 1-2.
