New Haven, Conn. - A furious second-half rally fell five points short as Princeton dropped an 83-77 decision to Yale in New Haven, Conn. on Friday night. Allison Cahill scored 21 points and Kelly Schaeffer chipped in with 17 of her own, but a 17-point halftime deficit proved to be too much as the Tigers drop to 8-15 on the year.
The Tigers trailed 45-28 at the half and the Bulldogs pushed their lead to 23 points before Princeton went on a 17-3 run to cut the score to 63-51. Cahill's free-throws at 4:21 brought Princeton within two points,72-70, but that was as close as Tigers would get.
Yale pushed the lead back up to eight with back-to-back three-point shots, but the Tigers rallied once again, and with Maureen Lane's three-point bucket, they were within striking distance at 78-74.
Both teams shot the ball well, with Princeton shooting a 52 percent from the field. The Bulldogs entered the game as the Ivy League's best three-point shooting team, but with Lane's 3 of 4 night from downtown, the Tigers connected on 53 percent of their three-pointers compared to Yale's still impressive 44 percent. Lane finshed the game with 13 points.
Christina Phillips led five Bulldogs with double-diget scoring nights. She ended the game with 18 points while Meg Simpson posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Yale improved to 13-11 overall and 6-5 in conference play.
The Tigers drop to 2-8 in the Ivy League and wrap up their road schedule with a visit to Brown on Saturday night. Game time in Providence in 7 p.m.
