Robins Leads Princeton Past Brown, Into First Place In Ivy League

Ray Robins scored all 17 of his points in the decisive first half as Princeton moved into first place in the Ivy League with a 73-47 victory over Brown in front of 5,352 at Jadwin Gym Saturday night.
The Tigers (14-9, 9-2) moved one-half game ahead of Yale, which lost 72-63 to Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The victory mathematically eliminated the Bears and left four teams alive for the Ivy title, including Harvard (7-5), which stayed in the chase with a win over Columbia. Harvard is at Yale Friday night, while Princeton and Penn are at Cornell and Columbia next weekend before meeting March 5 at the Palestra.
Princeton won its fourth straight overall and 15th in a row over Brown (15-10, 6-6). Princeton also extended the nation's longest homecourt winning streak to 52 straight against Brown. Mike Bechtold added 14 points for Princeton, which clinched its 92nd winning season in 102 years.
Robins had 10 rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots and two steals. Dominick Martin had nine points and three blocked shots for Princeton, which shot 51 percent and had 21 assists on 26 baskets.
Shaun Etheridge had 12 points for the Bears, who shot 31.9 percent and were outrebounded 39-31.
The Tigers played a nearly flawless first half in taking a 40-22 lead. Princeton shot 65.4 percent and committed just four turnovers while holding the Bears to 38.1 percent shooting. The Tigers had 15 assists on 17 baskets and held an 18-10 rebounding advantage.
Princeton never trailed, opening a 7-0 lead before allowing Brown to close within 16-15. The Tigers responded with 11 straight points, which led to a 24-6 run and a 40-21 lead.
Brown never got closer than 17 points in the second half, and Princeton opened its biggest lead at 72-43. The Tigers held Brown to its lowest point total since an 82-48 loss at Santa Clara in December 1999.
