Softball Defeats Indiana State 6-2, Falls to Portland State 3-1

Lawrence, Kan. - Wendy Bingham (So., La Crescenta, Calif.) picked up her second victory of the season as the Tigers defeated Indiana State 6-2 at the Kansas Invitational softball tournament. In the second game of the day Princeton fell to Portland State 3-1. Princeton currently stands at 4-2 on the season.
Kim Veenstra (Sr., Hawthorne, N.J.) batted two for three at the plate and picked up three RBIs as the Tigers defeated Indiana State 6-2. Princeton used a three-run first inning to open up a commanding lead but Indiana State fought back in the in fifth to close the gap to 3-2.
Veenstra's triple in the fifth brought Brie Galicinao (Sr., Stockton, Calif.,) and Bingham home who had reached on singles. Veenstra scored when a wild pitch from Emily Germer got past the catcher. Princeton would hold onto the 6-2 victory. Binghma pitched the complete game allowing six hits and striking out five Indiana State batters. Galicinao was the loosing pitcher against Portland State and currently stands at 1-2 on the season. The Tigers defeated Portland State two days earlier, 3-2. Galicinao allowed 10 hits and struck out five batters in the complete game.
After four scoreless innings, Portland State put two on the scoreboard in the fifth. Princeton's lone run of the day came when Melissa Finely (Fr., London, Ontario) walked and then stole second. Mackenzie Forsythe (Jr., Lake Oswego, Ore.) doubled to center field, scoring Finley.
The Tigers return to action when they face Georgia Tech for a doubleheader on Sunday, March 17 at 1 p.m. The match-up against Yellow Jackets is the starting point for Princeton's spring-break trip in Georgia.
