Final Stats
Athens, Ga. - A first-inning blast over the centerfield fence by Kristin Del Calvo also scored Brie Galicinao and put the Tigers up 2-0 against the Lady Colonials of Nicholls State. Nicholls State recovered and posted a steady comeback to defeated the Tigers 4-3 in the first match of the day. In the second game, the Tigers faced the No. 21 Bulldogs of Georgia and lost 3-0. Princeton slips to 5-7 on the season. Nicholls State improves to 7-17, Georgia moves to 31-3.
Nicholls State began to rally when it evened the score in the first on two infield errors.
Wendy Bingham, who doubled into right-centerfield to begin the third inning, scored on a sacrifice fly by Kim Veenstra to put the Tigers up 3-2. Nicholls State's pitcher Nichole Wagner loaded the bases in the top of the fourth with no outs yet pitched herself out of trouble striking out both Bingham and Galicinao. Lauren Palmer was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice. An infield error and two bunt singles help Nicholls State open a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth and the Tigers were unable to answer in their remaining at-bats. Melissa Finely was the losing pitcher of the game in which she allowed no earned runs, gave up six hits and struck out five.
Georgia opened a 2-0 lead in the third inning of today's second game when Kim Wendland picked up two RBIs with a single into right field scoring Molly McWilliams and Nicole Barber. The Bulldogs threatened to post more runs in the bottom of third but Del Calvo gunned out a runner coming home to keep the score at 2-0.
Georgia' Amy Brannan's solo shot over the left field fence in the top of the seventh increased the score to 3-0. Georgia's Lacey Gardner allowed only one hit and two base runners in the entire game.
Galicinao slips to 2-4 on the season allowing three runs on four hits, striking out seven Bulldog batters.
The Tigers will face Nichols State and Georgia tomorrow in a rematch of today's games. The first game starts at noon.
