Josh McCaughey Earns All-America in Weight Throw

Fayetteville, Ark. - Josh McCaughey (So., West Kingston, R.I.) placed ninth at the 2002 NCAA championships in the 35lbs. weight throw competition with a distance of 20.56m (67'5"). For McCaughey, who placed 14th at the 2001 championships, this is the second time in his career that he has earned All-America status. For Princeton, McCaughey becomes the second All-America selection of the 2002 championships. Yesterday, Tora Harris captured the national title in the high jump.
"We are really happy with this one," says head track and field coach Fred Samara. McCaughey, a two time indoor heptagonal champion fell a few feet short of Dave Pellegrini's '80 school record. Pellegrini captured the 35lbs. weight throw national title in 1980 with a distance of 69'-3.5", a distance that remains the Princeton record to this day.
Scott Russell of Kansas captured the 35 lbs. weight throw national title and broke the meet record with a distance of 24.67m
