Men's 4x100 Squad Shines as Tigers Tally Strong Performances at Sam Howell

PRINCETON, N.J. – Posting a strong early-April performance, the Princeton men's track and field team hosted the Sam Howell Invitational on Saturday, winning six events while several Tigers set new bests and highly-ranked marks.
The men's 4x100 relay squad of Greg Foster, Jadon Spain, Jackson Clarke and Charlie Sexton kicked things off with an impressive performance as they ran 39.29. Improving from a program all-time second-best 39.80 on Tuesday night, the quartet continues to knock on the door of the Ivy League record of 39.14, set in 2022 by Princeton. Their time currently ranks 10th on the NCAA list.
Spain and Foster, running 10.32 and 10.36, also took the top two times in the 100m dash.
In the 400m, Joey Gant shined as he set a new PR with his first sub-46 lap. Clocking in at 45.97 for second place, he was just .04 seconds off from the Princeton record of 45.93.
Xavier Donaldson (46.54), Jonathan York (47.10), Karl Dietz (47.20) and Kavon Miller (47.31) filled out the next four places.
The Tigers won three of four throwing events, as Casey Helm won the discus with 59.06m/193-9, Asher Robbins won the hammer with 64.93m/213-0, and Tyler Konopka won the shot put with a mark of 17.96m/58-11.25.
Anthony Liakhnovich took second in the shot put at 17.37m.57-0, while Joey Goodenow took second in the discus with 54.92m.180-2. In the javelin, Drew Mruk took second place at 62.24m/204-2.
Brian Boler, Jackson Shorten and Sebastian Martinez finished 1-2-3 in the 3000m steeplechase, as Boler set a meet record of 8:37.82 while jumping into fourth in the Princeton record book. Shorten clocked in at 8:39.05 for second while Martinez rounded out the top three at 8:48.34, also making the school leaderboard.
Christian Groendyk (14:09.48) and Avery Keith (14:10.36) finished second and third in the 5000m.
Collin Boler took second in the 1500m with a time of 3:43.44.
In its first full team meet showing at home this outdoor season, the Tigers made solid performances that they will build on as the season continues, as a home outdoor Heps and a chance to claim a third-straight Triple Crown looms.
Up next, the Tigers will head to Georgia for the Spec Towns Invitational next weekend.
