Baseball Wins 7-0, Earns Split Against Brown

PROVIDENCE, RI - Pat Boran was 3-for-5 with two home runs, four RBIs and two runs scored as Princeton defeated Brown 7-0 in Ivy League baseball action on Saturday afternoon in Providence, RI. The Tigers dropped the opening game of the doubleheader, 5-3, but improve to 12-15, 7-3 with the split. The Bears drop to 13-16, 3-3 with the loss.
Freshman Jason Vaughan, the reigning IvyLeagueSports.com Pitcher of the Week hurled a complete-game four-hitter, picking up three strikeouts along the way
Things got off to a good start for the Tigers in the second game. Leadoff hitter Pat Boran took the first pitch from Brown hurler Jamie Grillo and roped a home run, his first of the season, over the left field fence. Princeton added another run in the top of the sixth. Eric Fitzgerald roped a two out triple to left center and scored when the throw from the cutoff man went into the dugout and he was awarded the extra base.
The Tigers exploded for five runs in the seventh. Ryan Reich reached on a an error by the shortstop and Ryan Eldridge walked. Jon Miller laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to mover the runners to second and third with one out. Brown elected to walk designated hitter Paul Ackerman to load the bases. Brown did strikeout Chernoff to put two outs on the boars, but Steve Young capitalized on the situation. His blooper to left escaped the leftfielder, allowing Eldridge and Ackerman to score. Boran stepped up and cranked his second home run to plate three more runs and give Princeton a 7-0 lead.
Jamie Grillo pitched a complete game for the Bears, surrendering nine hits and one earned run in the loss.
Princeton will head to New Haven, CT for a pair of games against Yale tomorrow. Those games will start at 12 p.m.
