Monmouth, N.J. - Kristin Del Calvo hit two-for-four and picked up 4 RBIs as the Tigers defeated the Hawks of Monmouth, 8-0 in the first game of the doubleheader. The Tigers defeated the Hawks 6-1 in the nightcap. Princeton improves to 25-15, 9-1 IVY on the season and Monmouth slips to 16-19, 10-8 NEC.
Brie Galicinao led off the game, reaching first on an error by the second baseman and advancing to second on a pass ball. Kristin Lueke singled and advanced to second on the throw, Galicinao moved to third. Del Calvo scored Galicinao and Lueke with a single into left field and advanced to third on an error. Kim Veenstra's single to left field scored Del Calvo as the Tigers took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Melissa Finley walked and Mackenzie Forsythe reached first on a bunt to start the second inning. Wendy Bingham's sac bunt moved Finley and Forsythe to second and third. Galicinao's single up the middle scored Finley as the Tigers went up 4-0.
Finley's sac fly scored Veenstra in the third inning and Forsythe's double scored Erin Valocsik to increase the Princeton lead to 6-0.
Peggy Han walked and Lauren Chmielewski singled to put Tiger runners at first and second in the fifth but the Tigers were unable to bring either of the runners home.
Del Calvo's two-run blast over the right field fence scored Lueke and put the Tigers up 8-0.
Galicinao was the winning pitcher in the game, striking out 11 Hawk batters and allowing only one hit. For Galicinao, today's win was her eighth shutout of the season.
Galicinao walked and Lueke reached on an error to open the second match of the day. Veenstra's single up the middle loaded the bases with one out. Nemec's sac fly to right field scored Galicinao and Lueke as the Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
Kristin Wilson scored for the Hawks to make the score 2-1 after one inning of play.
Veenstra's third inning double scored Lueke as the Tigers went up 3-1. Finley's fourth inning double down the left field line scored Valocsik and Galicinao scored Finley with a single into right field to increase the lead to 5-1. Del Calvo singled to center field to score Galicinao as the Tigers wrapped up the fourth inning up 6-1.
Princeton will host Yale on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. If Princeton sweeps this weekend's doubleheaders against Yale and Brown they are guaranteed no less than a share of the Ivy title.
