Cambridge, Mass. - The Princeton heavyweight crew lost the Compton Cup to Harvard on the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass. The No. 5 Tigers were defeated by open water by the No. 2 Crimson on Saturday morning.
Great racing conditions didn't help the Tigers, who fell back two lengths after 1500 meters. Princeton would, however, make headway in its final sprint, but the Crimson crossed in 5:53.6 while Princeton finished 5.9 seconds back in a time of 5:59.5.
The second varsity race was similar with Princeton falling by 5.7 seconds. The Tigers did capture the first freshman eight in a time of 6:04.4. Harvard placed second and MIT finished third in the freshman race.
The Crimson have now won Compton Cup 28 straight times on its home waters. Princeton now races on its own waters with Cornell and Yale visiting Lake Carnegie next Saturday, April 27.
