Women's Water Polo Wins Three at Southerns / Will Face Michigan in Championship Game

Villanova, Pa. - Freshman, Kathryn Parolin scored three goals for the Tigers as Princeton defeated Gannon 14-7 in the first match of the Southern Division Championships. Princeton also defeated Mercyhurst 18-5 and George Washington 16-8. The Tigers will face Michigan in the championship game tomorrow at noon.
Adele McCarthy-Beauvais and Kelly-Melia Teevan each had three goals in the match against Gannon. Jenny Edwards had two goals and Annie Olson, Alexis Olle and Cassie Nichols each registered one. Madeline McCarthy was credited with five goals in the victory.
Princeton had a 1-0 lead going into the second quarter and entered halftime up 10-1. The Tigers added three more goals in the third quarter and two in the fourth as they defeated Gannon 14-7 Parolin had a team-high four goals in the victory over Mercyhurst. In a high scoring first quarter Princeton opened a 8-3 lead. The Tigers continued to pour on the offense in the second quarter, scoring six more goals but held strong on defense, allowing Mercyhurst only one. Edwards and Melinda Martin each had three goals. McCarthy-Beauvais tallied two while Olson, Nichols, and Jessie Garton each had one goal in the 18-5 victory. Lauren Lister played the complete game in the net for the Tigers and registered 11 saves.
The Tigers defeated the Colonials of George Washington 16-8 in the third game of the tournament for Princeton. Lead by Edwards' two goals in the first quarter and one in the second, the Tigers opened 9-4 halftime lead. Edwards finished the game with three goals as did McCarthy-Beauvais and Parolin. Julie Miller and Olle each had two. Melia-Teevan, Nichols and Olson each had one. McCarthy played three quarters of the game in goal and had eight saves. Lister played the final quarter and picked up four saves.
"It's good to be back in the championship game," said head coach Luis Nicolao. "We played well and we're ready."
Princeton will face Michigan in the finals tomorrow at noon. The last time the Tigers faced the Wolverines was on March 23. Princeton defeated Michigan 17-16.
