Princeton, N.J. - Senior captains Charlotte Kenworthy and Lauren Simone combined for eight goals and two assists as Princeton won easily, defeating Delaware 17-6 on Wednesday night at Class of 1952 Stadium. Princeton seniors collaborated for 13 of the team's 17 goals with Kenworthy and Simone chipping in with four apiece.
The Tigers dominated from the beginning with Simone scoring the game's first two goals only 14 seconds apart. Kenworthy bettered Simone's effort with two goals in a 10-second span to make the score 6-0. Simone answered with her third goal of the game and Princeton was up 7-0 only 7:34 into the contest.
Senior Kim Smith scored her second goal off a Lindsey Biles assist to put Princeton up 8-0. Senior Mimi Hammerberg made the game 9-0 with a goal at 16:41. The Blue Hens finally got on the scoreboard with Erin Edell's goal at 22:09. Princeton senior Nina Carbone scored off a pass from Sarah Small to push the lead back up to nine before Delaware scored its second goal with 26 seconds left in the first half and the Orange and Black led 10-2 at the intermission. Princeton put the game out of reach early in the second half with four goals in eight minutes. Kenworthy scored twice, Smith scored her third goal of the game and Simone's goal at the 38-minute mark made the score 14-2. Delaware made its final run with four unanswered goals, but Princeton ended the game on a 3-0 run of its own with sophomore Tara Hardiman scoring two goals and assisting on sophomore Katie Coyne's first career goal with about a minute to play.
Simone and Kenworthy each picked up an assist with their four goals. Smith finished the game with three goals and two assists, Hardiman had two goals and two assists as well. Sophomore Theresa Sherry, Carbone, Coyne and Hammerberg all finished the game one goal for Princeton.
The Tigers improve to 8-1 on the year, winning their eighth straight game and extended their win streak against Delaware to 13. Freshman Sarah Kolodner improves to 7-0 as a starter in goal, but for the third straight game, she split time with sophomore Megan McInnis. Kolodner finished with one save while McInnis finished with three.
With three goals on the night, Smith moves into a tie with Julie Shaner for fifth place on Princeton's all-time points list. Shaner finished her career last season with 164 points on 109 goals and 54 assists.
Smith looks to take sole possession of the fifth spot on the all-time scoring list when the Tigers return to action on Saturday, April 6. Princeton and Yale will battle in an Ivy League match at Class of 1952 stadium. Game time is 2 p.m. and admission is free.
