Josh McCaughey Captures Hammer Throw Title on Day One of HEPS

Annapolis, Md. - Josh McCaughey captured the 2002 outdoor Heptegonal hammer throw title with a distance of 61.32m (201'02") as the Tigers competed on day one of the championships. The men's track and field team is currently in first place with 44 points. Cornell is in second with 32 points and Penn is in third with 28 points.
For McCaughey today's first place finish is his second outdoor Heptagonal championship for the hammer throw. Last year McCaughey won the outdoor championships with a distance of 60.68m. This year, McCaughey captured the indoor HEPS title in the weight throw with a distance of 20.18m and placed ninth in the indoor NCAA championships 20.56.
Liam Morton, returning from a severe hand injury, placed second in the javelin with a mark of 66.14m (217'00"). Brian Chaput of Penn won the event with a distance of 71.85m (235'09") Dwaine Banton finished second in the Long Jump, registering a mark of 7.37m (24"04.25") Tuan Wreh of Penn finished first with a distance of 7.46m (24'05.75"). Brandon Braunstein finished eighth in the pole vault, clearing 4.65m (15'03")
Wesley Stockard finished fourth in the 10,000m with a time of 30:29.89. Jeff Key Qualified for the 400m hurdles final with a time of 54.81. Cameron Atkinson and Pat Schottel both qualified for the 100m dash final and Schottel and Solomon Barnett qualified for the 200m dash final.
Josh Kauke, Rob Hulick, Ryan Smith and Ed Zysik all qualified for the 800m final. Jonathan Klieliszak and Jonathan Bell qualified for tomorrow's 1,500m final
