Princeton Races Well At 2002 IRA Championships

Camden, NJ - The Princeton women's lightweight crew won its fourth national title with a win in the grand final over Wisconsin at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships. Princeton won the race with a time of 6:26.64, defeating Wisconsin (6:30.07) by more than three seconds.
While the women's lightweight crew was winning itself a championship, the men's lightweight team was racing in the grand finale after winning its heat earlier in the day. Princeton's men crossed the finish line in 5:42.4 to take third behind first-place Yale and second-place Navy.
The Princeton heavyweights also reached the grand finale, qualifying its Varsity Eight, Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight and Freshmen Eight. Both the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight took fifth place in their respective races with the Varsity Eight boat finishing in 5:37.29. The Second Varsity Eight registered a time of 5:40.28.
The freshmen boat recorded Princeton's top heavyweight finish with a third-place showing in 5:42.36 and the Varsity Four placed sixth in the grand finale with a time of 6:36.63.
Princeton finished second in total team points with 316 points. Wisconsin won the team title with 323 while California and Cornell each finished with 311.
