COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. - Four players from the Princeton women's hockey program have been selected to take part in the 2002 USA Hockey Women's Festival, to be held August 13-20 in Lake Placid, N.Y. Gretchen Anderson (Jr., Newton, Mass.) is one of 10 players who will represent the ECAC on the USA Hockey under-22 select team. Andrea Kilbourne (Sr., Saranac Lake, N.Y.), Lisa Rasmussen (Jr., Washington, D.C.) and Becky Stewart (So., Rosemount, Minn.) are three of 23 players from the ECAC that were named to one of the two 20-player festival teams. A total of 62 skaters were selected to the festival.
Anderson and the select team will begin a training camp on Aug. 13 in preparation for a three-game series with the Canadian under-22 team, beginning on Aug. 21. That series will be held at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y. Kilbourne, Rasmussen and Stewart are each members of the white team, which will be led by Princeton head coach Jeff Kampersal. The two festival teams will convene with the under-22 squad on Aug. 13 to begin a competition cycle that includes six practices and four games against each other over a one-week span. The event will conclude when the two festival teams depart on Aug. 20 and the under-22 team begins its series with Canada.
Anderson led the Tigers in scoring during the 2001-02 season with 37 points (25G, 12A) and was a second-team All-Ivy and honorable mention All-ECAC selection.
Kilbourne will return to the Tigers in 2002-03 after taking a year off to play on the US Olympic team that captured a silver medal at the XIX Olympic Games in Salt Lake City. She led the Tigers in scoring each of her first three years at Princeton and brings a career total of 131 points (58G, 73A) to the ice.
Rasmussen tallied 30 points (10G, 20A) last season, good for second on the team in scoring.
Stewart came to Princeton from Rosemont High School. She sat out all of last season, but is looking to be a major contributor for the Tigers in 2002-03.
In his sixth season behind the bench, Kampersal led Princeton to a 15-11-3 record and home ice for the first round of the ECAC North Playoffs. He was selected as the ECAC North Coach of the Year, and led the Tigers to their best Ivy League record (6-4) since the 1996-97 season.
