Cambridge, Mass. - Harvard's pressure defense forced 31 Princeton turnovers en route to a 78-42 defeat of the Tigers on Friday night in Cambridge, Mass. The Crimson registered 21 team steals to pick up their 11th win of the season while Princeton drops its first Ivy contest of the year.
The Tigers opened the game with an 8-4 lead, hitting two three-point baskets in the game's first two minutes. The Crimson answered and went ahead when Beverly Moore registered a three-point play the old fashion way. Harvard's offense posting 14 unanswered points in all to take an 18-8 lead midway through the first period.
The Tigers ended the half shooting 3 of 5 from three-point range while Harvard struggled with a 1-for-12 three-point clip. The Crimson, however, made 17 of 24 shots from inside the arc and took a 41-29 lead into the lockeroom.
Harvard used full-court pressure to open the second half with a 10-0 run and it never looked back. Hana Peljto scored 18 points, Reka Cserny added 17 while Moore finished with 16 for the Crimson. Princeton's top scorer, Allison Cahill, finished with nine points. Rebecca Brown chipped in with eight and Kelly Baril scored seven in defeat.
Harvard improves to 11-4 on the year and 3-0 in the Ivy League. Princeton falls to 6-10 overall and 1-1 in the quickly conference. The Tigers are in action tomorrow night at Dartmouth. Game time in Hanover is 7 p.m.
