Hanover, N.H. - Princeton made 32 percent of its shots while Dartmouth connected on 44 percent of its attempts from the field as the Big Green handed the Tigers a 74-52 loss in women's basketball action Saturday night. The loss is Princeton's second straight and second in conference play this season.
Dartmouth took control from the opening tip, scoring the game's first eight points before Maureen Lane broke into the scoring column for Princeton with a jumper at the 17:04 mark. The Tigers were ice cold throughout the entire first half, shooting 25 percent from the field, missing all eight three-point attempts as well as their lone free-throw opportunity.
The Big Green took advantage from the free-throw line and connected on 9-of-10 foul shots in the first period. Dartmouth used an 11-2 point-off turnover advantage to build a 34-16 halftime lead.
The Tigers were slow to start the second half and Dartmouth's 12-2 run made the score 46-18 with 17 minutes to play. Princeton answered with an 8-2 run of its own to cut the lead to 12 points. Freshman Ali Smith scored a career-high nine points in Princeton's second-half run, but it was Dartmouth's accuracy that put the game away.
Angela Soriaga led all scorers with a career-high 17 points, Jean Cullen added 14 for the Big Green. Lane was Princeton's top scorer with 12 points and pulled down a team-best six rebounds as well.
Princeton falls to 6-11 overall and 1-2 in the Ivy League. Dartmouth, now 1-3 in the conference, is 7-10 overall. The Tigers return home next weekend with Columbia and Cornell visiting Jadwin Gym. Princeton plays Columbia on Friday night and Cornell on Saturday. Both games are at 7 p.m.
