Princeton, NJ - Princeton made only four field goals in the second half of play and finished the game with 23 turnovers as St. Francis (NY) shocked the Tigers with a 69-64 win at Jadwin Gym on Sunday afternoon. It was the Terriers first win of the season and Princeton's fourth straight loss.
The first half was close throughout with eight lead changes and four ties. The Terriers went through Katie Baldwin, who scored 14 of St. Francis' 33 first half points. Princeton was steady and with a 51 percent field-goal mark and the Tigers led by nine at the break.
The second half was also hard-fought as Princeton controlled the beginning segment, taking the game's biggest lead (12 points) with 12:44 left on the clock. Neither team shot particularly well, but it doomed the Tigers in a 10-minute stretch in which they scored four points.
Down 62-61, Colleen Carbone weaved through traffic in the lane and gave the Terriers a one-point lead with her lay-up around the two-minute mark. Carbone came back and nailed a three-pointer on St. Francis' next possession to make the score 66-62. The Terriers would not relinquish their lead.
Senior Maureen Lane led Princeton's attack with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Fellow co-captain Allison Cahill returned from an ankle injury and scored eight points while dishing out three assists. St. Francis was led by Baldwin, who had 14 points. Kim Weir added 13 points for the Terriers and Carbone ended the game with eight points.
Princeton drops to 4-8 on the year, St. Francis is now 1-7 overall. The Tigers travel to Lehigh on Tuesday before returning home this Saturday, Jan. 11 to open the Ivy season with Pennsylvania.
