Field Hockey Hosts Non-Conference Games Against UConn, Rutgers

The Princeton field hockey team hosts two big non-conference games this weekend at Class of 1952 Stadium. 13th-ranked Connecticut visits No. 10 Princeton on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game, while local rival Rutgers visits Princeton for a 1 p.m. Sunday meeting.
The Tigers (6-2, 4-0 Ivy) and Connecticut have played eight times in the past seven seasons, with Princeton holding a tight 5-3 advantage in the series. Princeton has played three other nationally-ranked teams so far this season, falling to Maryland and Penn State but defeating Virginia in the season opener Sept. 5. Rutgers makes the short trip to Class of 1952 Stadium looking for its first win against the Tigers since the 1995 season. The Scarlet Knights are 6-7 overall on the season heading into a conference game at Providence Friday night.

Out of their League Princeton steps out of conference this weekend when its hosts 13th-ranked Connecticut and unranked Rutgers at Class of 1952 Stadium. The Tigers are 2-2 in non-league games heading into the weekend, with both losses coming to teams currently ranked in the Top 10 nationally.
Close Calls The Tigers and UConn have met eight times in the past seven seasons, and four of those games have been decided by one goal. Princeton has a 5-3 advantage in the series.
Knight Games Princeton has won six straight games against Rutgers by a combined score of 27-5. The Tigers defeated the Scarlet Knights 10-1 last season, marking just the fourth time in team history that Princeton scored 10 or more goals in a game.
Quick Out of the Gate The Tigers had outscored opponents 14-5 and outshot opponents 78-30 in the first half of their first eight games this season. Princeton also had 40 penalty corners in the first half compared to just nine for its first eight opponents.
Stat-Sheet Stuffers The Tigers are ranked ninth nationally in scoring offense, averaging 3.55 goals per game. Freshman goalie Allison Nemeth ranks sixth in the nation in goals-against average (0.94) and 14th overall nationally in saves percentage (.810).
One More Chance... Princeton plays just one of its final seven games of the regular season after this weekend at home?a matchup with seventh-ranked Old Dominion here at Class of 1952 Stadium next Sunday.
Connecticut Capsule The 13th-ranked Huskies fell to 8-4 on the season with a 2-1 loss to No. 15 Boston College Wednesday night. Lauren Henderson scored her 11th goal of the season early in the game for UConn, which fell to 1-1 in BIG EAST play.
Knight Notes The Scarlet Knights were 6-7 overall and 1-1 in BIG EAST play heading into a home match with conference rival Providence Friday night. Rutgers played its third straight overtime game Tuesday night, falling to St. Joseph's 4-3 in match that was decided by penalty strokes.
