Esmeralda Negron and Emily Behncke scored second half goals to lead 20th-ranked Princeton to a 2-0 win over Boston University Monday night.
The victory kept Princeton (8-1-2) undefeated at home this season at 5-0 and snapped BU's eight-game unbeaten streak. The Terriers, who had gone 5-0-3 in their last eight, fell to 6-4-4 overall.
"I thought we were smart tonight," said Princeton coach Julie Shackford. "We took advantage of our some opportunities. It was a good win for us."
Negron scored the first goal of the night seven minutes into the second half when she took a cross from Janine Willis and sent it into the net. It was the ninth goal of the season for Negron and the 23rd of her career, which moved the junior into fifth-place all-time at Princeton. Behncke finished the scoring 22 minutes later when she took a cross from Kristina Fontanez and scored her sixth goal of the season. Behncke was the 2002 Ivy League Rookie of the Year.
The Tigers, who outshot BU 15-4, were playing less than 48 hours after a 1-0 overtime win Saturday night at Brown, a game in which Meghan Farrell scored the only goal. Farrell was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week Monday, marking her second selection of the season.
"It was a tough game for us," said Willis. "We had a big game Saturday night against Brown, and this was only two days later. It wasn't our best, but we did what we had to do to get a win."
Madeleine Jackson made only two saves for the shutout.
Princeton returns to the Ivy League Friday night, when it hosts Columbia (7:30). Princeton is in second-place in the league at 2-1-0, one game behind Dartmouth (3-0-0).
