Women's Soccer Honors Trio With Team Awards
June 11, 2026 | Women's Soccer
Three recently graduated seniors from the Princeton women's soccer team have earned the program's seasonal team awards following the Tigers' Ivy League championship run, with Summer Pierson and Caroline Kane sharing the Kathy Kobler Garrett Award and Drew Coomans receiving the Women's Soccer Award.
The Kathy Kobler Garrett Award is presented annually to that member of the Princeton varsity women's soccer team whose generosity, positive attitude, genuine consideration for others, and quiet energy make her essential to the success of the team.
Pierson played in eight games during the 2025 season and made one start, playing the full 90 minutes against Lehigh on Oct. 21.
"Summer's passion for Princeton, our program, and her teammates was unmistakable," Princeton head coach Sean Driscoll said. "Since her arrival on campus, she brought an irreplaceable energy to every session and game. On many occasions, she could be found sticking around after sessions to help her teammates with their set piece delivery, crossing, and finishing. Her investment in the success of her peers and the team instilled both admiration and confidence, which will be greatly missed."
Kane played in 15 games and made 11 starts during the 2025 season, recording an assist against Columbia on Oct. 25. She played the full 90 minutes six times, including both Ivy League Tournament games and each of Princeton's final four Ivy League regular-season contests.
"As a Spirit of Princeton Award recipient, Caroline showed her multi-faceted abilities to shine in various aspects of campus life," Driscoll said. "She brought the same enthusiasm and intentionality to our program. Her uncanny ability to identify and highlight greatness in others was a superpower and helped galvanize our team. Caroline always prioritized her teammates and placed great value in being a part of their journeys. In doing so, like Summer, she left a lasting impression on the team and our staff."
The Spirit of Princeton Award, given by the university, recognizes students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the undergraduate experience through student organizations, athletics, community service, religious life, residential life and the arts.
Coomans received the Women's Soccer Award, which is awarded to the team's most valuable player as determined by a vote of the team members.
In her first season as a defender after competing as a forward earlier in her career, Coomans was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, first-team All-Ivy League, third-team United Soccer Coaches All-East Region and second-team All-ECAC. She started all 17 games, one of three Tigers to do so, and her 1,407 minutes ranked second on the team. Coomans also tied for second on the team with four assists, recording helpers against Rutgers on Aug. 22 and in three straight games against Cornell, Dartmouth and Lehigh from Oct. 11-21. She also scored against Cornell on Oct. 11.
"Drew had one of the most uniquely spectacular seasons I can remember in my career," Driscoll said. "A dominant attacking threat that finished the fall as the Defensive Player of the Year provides a snapshot of her outrageous talent. Rather than worry about her comfort level, she prioritized what the team needed. Her natural instincts and fierce competitive drive allowed her to assume a new position and helped us become Ivy Regular Season Champs. There is no doubt that her talents will be welcomed and influential as she navigates her pro career."
