The Princeton field hockey team, fresh off a 2-1 victory against then seventh-ranked Old Dominion Sunday afternoon, has moved up three spots to No. 8 in the latest STX/NFHCA rankings released Tuesday.
The No. 8 ranking is Princeton's highest of the 2003 season. The Tigers were ranked No. 10 each of the first five weeks of the poll and No. 11 in last week's rankings.
Defending national champion Wake Forest is the No. 1 team in the nation for the seventh straight week, followed by fellow Atlantic Coast Conference rivals Duke, Maryland and North Carolina in the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 spots. Michigan and Michigan State rank fifth and sixth, while Penn State, which defeated the Tigers earlier in the year, ranks seventh.
Princeton (9-3, 5-0 Ivy) plays a huge Ivy League game Saturday, traveling to No. 15 Harvard (9-3, 4-0) for a noon game at Jordan Field that could play a big part in determining the 2003 league championship and the league's automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. The Tigers, who also play at unranked Boston University Sunday, have won 29 consecutive Ivy League games and haven't lost to Harvard since the 1993 season.
