Allison Nemeth, who continued her terrific freshman season with two more outstanding performances in goal this past weekend, has been named the Ivy League's Field Hockey Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for games ending Oct. 19.
Nemeth had the strongest performance of a strong freshman season against then seventh-ranked Old Dominion Sunday, stopping a season-high 12 shots in a 2-1 Princeton victory over the Lady Monarchs. The Langhorne, Pa., native stopped six shots in the final 1:20 of the first half as the Tigers staved off five penalty corners to maintain a 2-1 halftime lead, then had four saves in the second half to help Princeton maintain that advantage.
The Langhorne, Pa., native also saved four shots in a 2-0 Ivy League victory at Brown Saturday. The win was Princeton's 29th straight in league play dating back to 1999 and improved the Tigers to a perfect 5-0 in Ivy play in 2003.
For the season, Nemeth has a perfect 7-0 record in 10 appearances and has allowed just six goals in 509 minutes of action. She ranks third nationally in NCAA Division I in both goals-against average (0.82) and saves percentage (.850).
Nemeth has now earned league Rookie of the Week honors three times in seven weeks this season. The Player of the Week honor is her first and Princeton's second this season.
Princeton (9-3, 5-0 Ivy) next plays on Sat., Oct. 25, traveling to Harvard for a key Ivy League game against the Crimson (9-3, 4-0 Ivy), the only other unbeaten team in league play. The Tigers also play at Boston University Sunday.
