Men's Golf in Fourth Place After First Day of Temple Invitational

Moosic, Pa. - Princeton's Jason Gerken shot an opening-round 71, one stroke off the lead held by Penn State's Mark Leon and Temple's Pat O'Neil, to help the Tiger men's golf team to fourth place out of 13 teams after the first day of the Temple Invitational at Glenmaura National G.C. in Moosic, Pa.
Gerken went out in 33 at the 6,693-yard, par-71 layout near Scranton, the best front-nine performance of the day, before coming in with 38 to finish in a tie with Rutgers' Brent Pittman at 71. Creighton Page shot 74 for the Tigers and is tied for seventh place after the first day of competition.
The Tigers' 307 team score was just two strokes behind third-place George Washington. Led by Leon, Penn State shot a first-day 293 and is three strokes ahead of second-place Rutgers heading into Saturday's final round.
John Locke shot an 80 for Princeton and is tied for 26th, while Greg Johnson had an 82 and finished tied for 38th.
