Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton women's hockey team received the No. 9 ranking in the first USCHO women's poll of the season. The Tigers enter the 2003-04 season looking to build upon one of the program's most successful seasons. The 2002-03 campaign was Princeton's first 20-win season and saw the Tigers return to the ECAC semifinals. Princeton will look to duplicate that success and take it a step further when the season begins.
Three-time defending national champion Minnesota-Duluth received eight first-place votes to claim the top spot in the preseason poll. The top ECAC team listed is Dartmouth, which received two first-place votes and ranks second in the poll. Last season Dartmouth defeated Princeton in the ECAC semifinals and appeared in the Frozen Four. Other ECAC teams ranked in the top 10 are Harvard at fourth and St. Lawrence at eighth. Brown is in the other teams receiving votes category.
This season Princeton will face eight of the teams that are either ranked or receiving votes. In fact, the Tigers will jump into tough competition early, facing four of these teams in its first six opponents. The Orange and Black open the season on Nov. 1 and 2 at Connecticut, then after games against Maine and Northeastern, will host No. 8 New Hampshire and No. 5 Providence before visiting No. 2 Dartmouth on Nov. 21 for the league opener.
