Box Score
Princeton, N.J. - Katy Digovich scored a season-high 18 points including four three-pointers in Princeton's first home game of the season, a 56-53 loss to Lehigh. The Tigers were ahead at halftime but Lehigh's Dawn Gorynski scored 11 second-half points to lead the Mountain Hawk's rally.
Princeton did not play like the Princeton team that was so successful in its recent trips to Nebraska and Vanderbilt, scoring 16 points less than its average and shooting almost 10 percent worse.
Digovich scored the first points of the night with a three-pointer within the first minute of action. The freshman continued to eat up Lehigh's zone defense with two more first-half threes but the Mountain Hawks stayed in the game with jumpers and put-backs. Becky Brown put the Tigers ahead (28-27) before the break with a lay-up off a tip from Casey Lockwood. Brown had 10 points to go along with 11 from Digovich at the half. Jessica DePalo led Lehigh with 5-for-7 shooting and 10 points by halftime.
Brown and Lockwood started the second half dominant in the paint, each scoring on post moves to up Princeton's lead to five. But the Tigers missed several box-outs on the defensive boards and Lehigh's Jana Ransom scored two consecutive put-backs.
Princeton's Elyse Umeda provided a spark with a quick three-pointer, a steal and a lay-up before Gorynski and the Mountain Hawks went on a rally. Gorynski scored two three-pointers and a jumper within a five-minute span to give Lehigh the 56-53 lead with a minute to play.
The Mountain Hawks went into a spread offense and forced a shot as the shot clock expired, giving Princeton the final shot with 0:21 remaining. The Tigers failed to get a good look at the basket and Umeda's long three at the buzzer was no good.
Digovich led all scorers with 18 points while Brown added 14 for Princeton. Lockwood finished with a game-high nine rebounds. Gorynski, Ransom and DePalo all scored in double-figures, combining for 37 of Lehigh's 56 points.
The Tigers fall to 1-4 overall and next play on the road at Sacred Heart this Saturday, Dec. 6. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
