Brown Scores 15 But Tigers Fall Short At Sacred Heart

Princeton, N.J. - Sophomore Becky Brown scored 15 points off 7-for-11 shooting and added six rebounds in Princeton's 71-47 loss to Sacred Heart in Fairfield, Conn. The Tigers came within four points of the Pioneers but never led, as they dropped to 1-4 overall this season.
Sacred Heart's Nicolle Rubino scored the first points of the game with a three-pointer just 15 seconds in and added another three-pointer and a layup to lead Sacred Heart to an 11-0 start in the first five minutes.
Princeton's first basket came at 15:11 when freshman Katy Digovich scored on a drive to the hoop. The Tigers scored the next five points of the game but never took the lead and ended the half behind 27-21. Brown had a team-high eight points at the break while freshman guard Shelly Slemp had five points off 2-for-3 shooting. Princeton had 17 turnovers at halftime, one assist and were shooting just 50 percent from the foul line. Rubino finished with 12 first-half points.
Brown opened the second half with a layup to put Princeton within four points but that would be the closest it came. Sacred Heart built as much as a 25-point lead, outscoring the Tigers 44-26 in the second half.
Princeton, who entered the day averaging 17 turnovers per game, had a season-worst 31 turnovers. The Tigers finished 0 for 8 behind the arc and scored most of their points in the paint, as senior center Maureen McCracken added seven points and six rebounds to Brown's team-high numbers.
Princeton's top two scorers, freshmen Casey Lockwood and Katy Digovich, were held to six and five points each.
The Tigers travel to Hofstra next Saturday.
