PRINCETON, N.J. -- Sophomore forward Emilie Berlinguette scored two goals for St. Lawrence and senior goalie Rachel Barrie made 35 saves as the Saints (9-4-1 overall, 4-0-0 ECAC) got their second-straight win over Princeton at Baker Rink, topping the Tigers (7-5-0, 2-3-0), 3-1, Saturday night.
St. Lawrence started off strong thanks to an early Princeton penalty. After sophomore forward Becky Stewart went to the penalty box for body-checking at 3:16 of the first period, Berlinguette scored her first goal of the game, taking a pass from senior forward Rickie-Lee Doyle and pushing a wrist shot past senior goalie Megan Van Beusekom's right skate for a 1-0 lead.
Nearly eight minutes later, Saints' senior forward Gina Kingsbury, who scored both goals in her team's 2-1 win Friday night, struck again on a wraparound on a power play at 11:16, just twelve seconds after the Tiger penalty. The Princeton offense picked up late in the second period, but neither team scored in the middle frame. Kingsbury, who was injured late in the first period, played only one shift in the second before returning to regular action in the third.
The Tigers cut the deficit in half at 6:29 of the third when senior forward Lisa Rasmussen took a centering pass from sophomore forward Tarah Clark and stuffed the puck past Barrie's left pad.
But the St. Lawrence power play unit was not done.
Berlinguette struck again, this time tipping a slap shot from freshman defense Abbie Bullard that dropped in the right side of the net, just before a hooking penalty to Princeton senior forward Gretchen Anderson could expire. With three minutes left, the Saints had a 3-1 lead on three power play goals.
The Tigers picked up the tempo again and pulled Van Beusekom to get an extra skater for much of the final two minutes, but St. Lawrence held on for the two-goal win.
Princeton next travels to Ohio to take on Findlay for two games next weekend.
