Cambridge, Mass. - Princeton's 400-yard freestyle relay team earned a one-second victory in the final event of the 2003 H-Y-P meet to catapult the Tigers to a first-place finish and a sweep of Ivy rivals Harvard and Yale in Cambridge, Mass. on Sunday afternoon.
The Tiger foursome of Jamie Leahy, Mike Salerno, Justin Chiles and Carl Hessler tapped in at 2:59.61, one second ahead of Harvard's 400 free relay squad to give Princeton a 179-174 win over the Crimson and a 275-76 victory over Yale
Princeton entered the day with a lead, and senior Jesse Gage did his part to ensure the Tigers would maintain that lead. Gage won both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly races. He led a 1-2-3 Princeton finish in the 100 free with Chiles placing second and Salerno taking third.
Senior Garth Fealey won the 200-yard breaststroke and junior Steve Flemming took first in the 200-yard backstroke to keep the Tigers unbeaten this season.
With the sweep, Princeton improves to 7-0. The Tigers will next host Navy this Saturday, Feb. 8 at DeNunzio Pool.
