ATLANTA, Ga. - Melissa Finley hit a first-inning double that brought home Cristina Cobb-Adams for Princeton's only run of the day, as the Tigers dropped their season-opener to Georgia Tech 8-1 and lost in the second game 4-0.
The Tigers began their season in front of 138 fans at Glenn Field when Georgia Tech's Tiffany Goodman struck out three batters and allowed just five hits. Lindsay Motal and Kristin Del Calvo had two hits a piece but were both left on base.
Finley pitched three innings before Wendy Bingham took over and struck out four batters. Seven players scored for the Yellowjackets, including two runs by Soraya Reddick. Lauren Schlechte and Tara Knudsen each tallied a homer.
In the second game, Jessica Sallinger dominated from the mound and struck out 15 Tigers. Kristin Leuke had the lone hit for the Tigers. Freshman Erin Synder earned eight strikeouts in her collegiate pitching debut for Princeton but Knudsen and Reddick each had two hits and a homerun.
Princeton (0-2) travels to Kennesaw State tomorrow for a 2:00 p.m. game.
