Water Polo Splits Afternoon Matches

San Diego, Calif. - For the second straight day, the 17th-ranked Princeton women's water polo earned a split of its two matches, defeating the University of the Pacific and falling to sixth-ranked San Diego State, at San Diego State's Ray and Joan Kroc Center.
In the first game of the day for Princeton, the eastern Tigers' offense proved too much for the western Tigers of Pacific, which was playing for the second time after an earlier 10-4 loss to San Diego State.
Pacific opened up the game with an early goal by Kristin Cockerill, followed shortly by a score from Jessica Schroeder. Princeton responded quickly with five straight goals - Jenny Edwards delivered back-to-back scores; Adele McCarthy-Beauvais and Kathryn Parolin added one each; and Megan Donahue scored the last goal with 14 seconds left to spare in the first quarter. After the Princeton run, Pacific lost its momentum and was unable to keep up with Princeton's swift defense and physical offense.
Although Pacific came back in the second with a 4-meter penalty shot from Cockeril, Princeton continued to respond to every Pacific challenge with goals of their own. Rushing off a steal late in the fourth, Julie Miller's charge down pool gave her an open shot to cap the scoring and the Princeton Tigers emerged a winner in the offensive contest.

The Princeton offense finally got going in the second quarter with two goals and pulled to within 6-3 on Annie Olson's score early in the third.
Princeton returns to action on Tuesday, March 18 when the Tigers visit the University of Redlands at 5 p.m.
