Tigers Flex Muscles In Field Events At Coastal Carolina Track Relays

Princeton, N.J. - Tim Releford led Princeton's charge in field events at the 2003 Coastal Carolina Relays over the weekend. He was one of five Tigers to qualify for the NCAA Championship meet in only the first outdoor competition of the season.
Releford won the javelin with personal best throw of 223-6. Princeton won four field events in all with 1-2 finishes in both the hammer throw and the shot put.
Josh McCaughey qualified for the NCAA's in the hammer with a first-place finish and a throw of 198-8. Mark Smith, who placed second in the event with a mark of 185-9, also qualified.
Princeton would experience the same outcome in the shot put with Paul Lyons' winning put of 55-6 and Rocky Craley's runner-up put of 54-1. Both distances are qualifying marks. Lyons also won the discus throw with a personal best 161-4.
The Tigers also found success on the track with both the 4x400 and 4x100 relay teams winning. The 4x400 team ran a time of 3:15.53 and the 4x100 finished in 41.74.
Princeton returns home and hosts the Sam Howell Invitational on Friday-Saturday, April 4-5.
