Box Score
Princeton, N.J. - Theresa Sherry scored five goals and Lindsey Biles added four as Princeton rolled to a 15-2 victory over Columbia in the driving rain on Wednesday night at Class of 1952 Stadium. The Tigers outshot Columbia 30-8 and caused 20 turnovers to open the Ivies with a 1-0 record for the 11th straight season.
Sherry opened the Tiger barrage with two goals in the game's first 2:37. Biles scored on a free position shot to make the score 3-0 before senior Whitney Miller scored back-to-back goals to have Princeton up by five. The Tigers scored twice more before the half and led 7-0 going into the lockeroom.
The second half started like the first half ended with Biles and Sherry exchanging goals. The duo combined for Princeton's first five goals of the second period and with 22 minutes left in regulation, the Tigers held a commanding 12-0 lead. Princeton's defense, which held Columbia to only one shot in the first half, smothered the Lions in the second half as well. Senior Alex Fiore led the team with six ground balls and five caused turnovers while senior co-captain Rachael Becker added to her team high 20 caused turnovers with four on the night.
"We played better in the second half," says Becker. "We stepped up the intensity and really played well as a team."
Freshman Jamie Sundheim scored her first career goal while Olachi Opara and Tara Hardiman each notched their second goals of the season. Fiore and Miller both finished with two assists while Columbia's Adie Moll scored both Lion goals.
Princeton improves to 3-3 overall and has now 11 straight Ivy contests. The Tigers are back in action Friday night when they host Georgetown in a rematch of last season's NCAA Championship Game.
Princeton and Georgetown draw at 6 p.m. and can be heard live on WBUD AM 1260 and www.GoPrincetonTigers.com. Both CN8 and the College Sports Television Network will also televise the game, which can be seen tape-delay at 8 p.m. on Friday night.
