No. 19 Princeton Falls To No. 21 UVa 12-10 Despite Sloan's Career Day
March 11, 2026 | Women's Lacrosse
The difference between No. 19 and No. 21 Wednesday afternoon was No. 5.
Â
The Princeton women's lacrosse team, ranked 19th, dropped a 12-10 decision to No. 21 Virginia on a gorgeous Wednesday afternoon in Charlottesville. The main reason? That would be No. 5 on UVa.
Â
Katie Galica, a 2025 first-team All-American and the ACC Midfielder of the Year, matched her uniform number with five goals while also allowing the Cavaliers to have a big edge in possession with 11 draw controls.
Â
Princeton built a 6-3 lead at the half and then rallied to tie it at 9-9 after falling behind by two at 9-7 early in the fourth quarter as Maggie Bacigalupo and Ella Sloan scored back-to-back goals less than three minutes apart. Just like that, though, Galica added her fourth and fifth goals, with 6:52 and 5:14 left, putting UVa up for good.
Â
Bacigalupo and Ella Sloan scored three times each for Princeton, while Sloan added three assists for a career-best six points. Sloan, a junior who missed all of last season due to injury, now has seven goals and three assists in the last two games after having seven goals and one assist for her career prior to that.
Â
Haven Dora had four assists for Princeton, who also got two goals from Meg Morrisroe and one each from Jami MacDonald and Maggie Molnar. Amelia Hughes made 15 saves for the Tigers.
Â
Princeton will be at Penn State Sunday.
