REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. - The first varsity Princeton heavyweight crew rallied in the final 1,000 meters to surpass Navy in an exciting season-opening victory during the first session of the Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic. Princeton will also row against California and Wisconsin during the weekend competition.
Navy held a 1.6-second lead midway through the race, but Princeton was able to rally during the final two splits to earn the win. The Tigers cut the deficit to slightly more than .2 of a second with 500 meters remaining, and ended up winning the race by exactly .2 of a second. Princeton made up the most ground in the third split, rowing the 500 meters in 1:31.22 as opposed to Navy's 1:32.60.
