Baseball Drops Game to Vermont 4-0

Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton baseball team dropped a 4-0 decision to Vermont Sunday afternoon in a persistent light rain at Clarke Field. In addition, Vermont had a 7-4 lead in the top of the fifth when the second game of the double header was called because of rain.
In the first game Vermont scored two runs in each of its first two at bats to comprise all the game's scoring. In the first, Vermont's runs came off a two-RBI double from Jason Iannoni that scored Jeff Barry and Barry Chamberland. Vermont also scored two in the second when Derek Root scored on a sacrifice fly from Bobby Tewksbary and Raymond Montanez scored following a Princeton error on a ground ball.
Princeton starter Erik Stiller pitched three and two-thirds innings giving up three earned runs on seven hits. He also struck out five as his record dropped to 0-3 on the season. Mark Siano pitched the final three and one-third innings and surrendered only one hit while striking out four. Vermont's Derek Miller pitched a complete game three-hit shutout. Ryan Eldridge had two singles in the game for Princeton and Jon Miller notched a double.
Princeton is now 6-14 on the season and will look to snap its two-game skid on Wednesday when Rider visits Clarke Field at 3 p.m.
