Princeton, N.J. - Princeton scored three second-period goals to outdistance itself from Yale in game one of the ECAC Quarterfinals on Friday night. Senior Andrea Kilbourne scored twice to give the Tigers a 6-2 win and the lead in the best-of-three series.
Kilbourne opened the game's scoring with a goal at the 8:01 mark of the first period. The Tigers posted 13 shots to Yale's seven, but entered the first intermission tied at 1-1.
The second period would prove to be the difference with Princeton scoring three unanswered goals, the first of which came off the stick of senior Nikola Holmes. Holding onto a 2-1 lead, junior Lisa Rasmussen punched in a deflection off of a Susan Hobson shot and to give the Tigers a two-goal cushion.
Junior Gretchen Anderson sealed the period's scoring and the game for that matter with a goal at the 4:02 mark, giving Princeton a 4-1 lead after two periods. Yale scored to open the third, but two more Princeton goals would result in a convincing victory.
The Tigers finished the game with 36 shots compared to Yale's 16. Princeton won 36 face-offs, 13 by Rasmussen, and is now 2-0 versus Yale at Hobey Baker Rink this season.
Game two is tomorrow and will also be played at Baker Rink. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
