Princeton, N.J. - Angela Gooldy's first period goal would be all the Tigers needed in Saturday night's ECAC Quarterfinal game versus Yale. Princeton, however, scored seven more times and advanced to the ECAC Women's Hockey Semifinals with an 8-0 win and a 2-0 sweep of the Bulldogs.
Junior Megan Van Beusekom registered 20 saves and picked up the shutout in goal. She was replaced by Roxanne Gaudiel, who played the final 6:45 and recorded one save herself. The Princeton defense killed 11 Yale power-play opportunities while the offense outshot Yale 35-21.
Gooldy scored the first Tiger goal with 5:48 left in the first period. Princeton held a 1-0 lead at the first intermission, but only 22 seconds into the second period, Gretchen Anderson took a break-away pass from Andrea Kilbourne and made it 2-0. Less than four minutes later, Susan Hobson upped the lead to three with an unassisted goal from behind the cage.
Both Gooldy and Anderson would score again as well as team captain Nilola Holmes and freshmen Sarah Greer and Sarah Butsch. The Tigers improve to 20-8-2 overall and 13-5-0 in ECAC competition.
The Tigers travel to Providence, R.I. next weekend and will be re-seeded according to tournament rankings and league standings. The ECAC Semifinals are March 16 at 1 and 4 p.m.
