Women's Water Polo Adds Two More Wins To Streak

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The women's water polo team earned decisive wins over Penn State-Behrend and Gannon University on Friday night at the Southern Championships, continuing its winning streak from last weekend's ECAC Championship. The Tigers went 7 for 10 on their six-on-five opportunities to defeat Penn State-Behrend, 11-3, and Gannon, 19-5.
Princeton opened a 8-0 lead against Penn State in the first quarter of Game 1, as Melinda Martin scored three goals and Adele McCarthy-Beauvais had two. Both Tigers finished the game with three goals apiece, and Martin added a team-high three steals. Keala Carter and Courtney Mee each dished out three three assists.
The Tigers got off to a slow start in the second game and led just 3-1 after the first quarter. McCarthy-Beauvais won the opening sprint and fellow senior co-captain Jenny Edwards scored the first goal. McCarthy-Beauvais later drew and scored a four-meter before Edwards ended the quarter with her second goal of the game.
In the second period, Julie Miller scored two goals and Carter, Melia-Teevan, and McCarthy-Beauvais each contributed one to lift Princeton to a 8-3 halftime lead. McCarthy-Beauvais finished the game with a team-high five goals and four assists while Megan Donahue led the Tigers with four steals. Goalkeeper Madeline McCarthy, who did not play against Penn State, recorded four saves against Gannon.
Princeton (21-4) plays Indiana Saturday, April 12 at 5:45 p.m.
