PRINCETON, N.J. - The No. 4 Harvard heavyweight crew earned the Compton Cup for the 53rd time overall by topping No. 6 Princeton by more than 13 seconds Saturday morning at Lake Carnegie. The win, Harvard's first since 1993 at Princeton's home course, avenges the Crimson's last defeat at a Regatta, which came in the 2001 Compton Cup.
Princeton left with wins in two races, taking the varsity four (6:22.2) and the freshman eight (6:08.1). Harvard won two other races, the second varsity eight (6:05.2) and the second freshman eight (6:30.4).
That left the first varsity race, which Harvard won in 5:55.1, the lone sub-6:00 performance of the day. Princeton finished second in 6:08.94, while MIT placed third in 6:52.96.
Princeton will next row on Saturday, April 26 at Cornell against both the Big Red and the Yale Bulldogs. The Tigers will get another chance against Harvard at the Eastern Sprints, which will take place at Harvard's Charles River on May 11.
