IRCA Honors Hughes, Organek and Bell as Postseason Awards Finalists

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRCA) announced its finalists for its postseason awards Monday, Princeton University heavyweight rowing team Head Coach Greg Hughes was a finalist for a pair of awards while Maile Organek was a finalist for Coxswain of the Year and Theo Bell the Oarsman.
Hughes was named a finalist for Coach of the Year and the IRCA Leadership Award. The Leadership Award is given to a coach or administrator who has shown signification improvement with their perseverance, determination and dedication. Hughes led the Tigers to a second-place finish in the team point standings at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) National Championships, along with gold for the 2V and bronze for the 1V and 3V. Hughes also guided the Tigers to a Rowe Cup title at Eastern Sprints, where the 2V, 3V, 4V and 5V won gold the 1V silver. Winners of the Leadership Award, Coach of the Year and Coxswain of the Year will be announced on June 26.
Organek coxed the 2V throughout the season, and Bell raced with the 1V
The Oarsman stands as a tribute to rare athletes who achieve greatness noy only through personal excellence but through a lasting commitment to their team, their sport, and the values that define true champion. The winner of the Oarsman will be announced on July 2.
