Princeton, N.J. - Jon Bell ran a blistering 3:45.46 in the 1,500 and Hasina Outtz led the women with a win in the 400-meter hurdles at the Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday. Several Tigers placed in the annual memorial meet held at Weaver Stadium, including four first-place finishes.
Bell's time in the 1,500 won him the race, a full second ahead of second-place Mary Smyth of Iona. The Tigers finished 1-2 in the 10,000 meters with Ryan Teising placing ahead of teammate Jeff Bingham.
David Dean continued Princeton's success in the distance events with a third-place finish in the 800 (1:50.85). Justin Reed placed second in the 400 (48.35) as the men's 4x100-meter relay team captured gold in a time of 41.36.
Mike Weinshuhn led the men in the field with a first-place finish in the high jump. Weinshuhn registered a 6-10.75, better than Brendan Pool of Navy, who placed second and Ben Samara of TCNJ, who finished third. Paul Lyons took silver in the discus throw with a mark of 164-03.
Outtz led the women with a first-place showing and a time of 1:01.17 in the 400 hurdles. The Tigers placed 2-3-4 in the 1,500-meter race with Pilar Marin placing second in 4:36.87. Suzanne Andrews placed third and Laura Petrillo finished fourth in the event.
In the women's field events, Molly Jones took second in the triple jump (38-06) and Jen Byrd took third in the long jump (17-09) for the Tigers. Christi Niehans tied for second in the pole vault and Meredith Mante finished close behind in fourth.
Both the Princeton men and women will be home next weekend for the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
