Rider (Princeton Invitational)
Softball Wins One Of Three In Second Day Of Princeton Invitational
May 04, 2003 | Softball
In Game 1, Wendy Bingham opened the scoring when she singled to the pitcher and moved to second with Cristina Cobb-Adams' walk. Both Tigers advanced on a wild pitch before two straight walks brought Bingham home. Cobb-Adams improved the lead to 2-0 when she scored on Ty Ries' single to centerfield.
St. Joseph's put a run on the board in the fourth after Alicia Cunic doubled to centerfield and Kate Reisch ran the bases home for her.
The Tigers came right back at them in the bottom of the inning beginning when Nicole Davida reached first on a fielder's choice. Kristin Lueke and Bingham then hit back-to-back singles and Cobb-Adams reached on a fielder choice to score Davida. Lueke also scored another unearned run when she came home on a passed ball. Princeton led 4-0 after four. Princeton put the game away in the sixth when Lueke, who reached on a single to right field, scored her second run of the game. Melissa Finley then earned two RBIs with a home run, her 11th of the season, before the game ended with Princeton up, 7-1.
Snyder allowed just four hits in seven innings, when she struck out seven and walked one.
In the second game against the Hawks, Bingham led the Tigers with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, while Ries and Kristin DelCalvo each went 2 for 3. St. Joseph's led from the start when, in the first inning, Cunic ripped a two-run homer that scored Lindsey McNamara, who singled. The Hawks added another run in the fourth when Kate McCann singled to third and McNamara and Amanda Richardson helped her score, ending the game ahead of the Tigers, 3-0.
Princeton faced Rider in the final game of the Invitational, and battled the Brocs through five scoreless innings. The Tigers scored first when freshman Lindsay Motal hit her first collegiate homer out of center right field. But Rider matched that with a home run of its own, a solo shot by Kristin Kenavan in the bottom of the sixth.
Finley recorded yet another homer, her 12th of the season, in the top of the ninth before Rider scored two to win the game, 3-2. Amanda Tu and Courtney Weed singled, advanced on a passed ball, and eventually scored when Maddy Boulden singled to left field.
Princeton is now 23-18-1 overall and 11-3 in the Ivy League. The Tigers host Lehigh this Tuesday at 3 p.m.
