Rutgers Tops Baseball In Regular Season Finale

Princeton, N.J. - The Princeton baseball teamed suffered its first non-league loss since March 30 Tuesday afternoon as the Tigers fell to No. 28 Rutgers 20-0 at Clarke Field. The Scarlet Knights jumped ahead early and cruised for their 27th win of the season. Princeton now stands 25-20 on the season and will host Harvard for the Ivy League Championship this weekend.
Rutgers strung together a hit, three walks and a hit batter to go ahead 3-0 in the first inning. The Scarlet Knights added five in the second inning, four in the third and seven in the fourth to build a 19-0 lead. They then added a final run in the ninth inning.
The Tigers used seven pitchers and 14 players in the field. Erik Stiller pitched the first two-thirds of an inning and fell to 1-4 with the loss. Brian Biegen and Nate Miller each turned in two scoreless innings of relief for Princeton. Offensively, the Tigers could only muster seven hits off the Rutgers pitching staff. Andy Salini and Will Venable each had two hits for the day while Matthew Becker, Jon Miller and Ryan Eldridge each added a hit.
The Tigers will return to action on Saturday at 12 noon against Harvard in Game 1 of the best-of-three Ivy League Championship Series.
