Gerken's Fifth-Place Finish Leads Men's Golf at JMU Invitational

Harrisonburg, Va. - Jason Gerken's fifth-place finish helped lead the Princeton golf team to an eighth-place finish at the JMU Invitational this afternoon. Gerken shot a two-under 69 to finish the tournament at five under, four strokes behind the tournament winner, Brent Pittman of Rutgers.
Princeton placed eighth overall in the 17-team field, one shot behind George Washington, two behind Liberty and three behind Rutgers. The Tigers were 18 shots behind Georgetown, who won the invitational by a single stroke over the host Dukes.
Following Gerken, the Tigers' next highest finisher was Creighton Page, who shot a three-over 74 to finish the tournament at four over. He was in a seven-man tie for 22nd. Greg Johnson (75-72-72--219, t-35th), John Locke (75-74-73--222, t-49th) and Brent Herlihy (79-72-75--226, t-66th).
The Tigers continue the fall season next Friday and Saturday at the McLaughlin Intercollegiate at the Bethpage Red Golf Course in Farmingfale, N.Y.
