After a tight first half, it appeared the crowd at Lourie-Love Field was in for more of the same through the first 19 minutes of the second half. Princeton trailed Harvard 1-0 in the 65th minute, looking for the equalizer.
Six minutes later, it was 4-0 Crimson.
Harvard (8-5-0 overall, 3-1-0 Ivy League) used a three-goal burst late in the second half to put away the Tigers (6-4-3, 2-1-1) and then held on for a 5-2 victory Saturday on Princeton's home turf.
Charles Altchek scored the only goal of the first half in the 9th minute, punching home a rebound off a blocked shot by Tiger goalie Erik White.
The next 56 minutes passed without a goal before Harvard's Nicholas Tornaritis chipped a crossing pass from his brother Anthony into the air, over the head of White, and into the upper right corner of the net. Less than a minute later, Tornaritis struck again. Altchek sent a pass between two defenders on the right side, and Tornaritis blasted his shot home low to the left post past a diving White.
Five minutes later it was Altchek's turn again. A pass by Princeton's Jame Wunsch was stolen by the Crimson's Pablo Koe-Krompecher, who threaded a pass to Altchek for an easy finish past White.
The Tigers got some life back in the 74th minute when Darren Spicer made a great individual play, firing a shot off Harvard goalie Jamie Roth then collecting the rebound, dribbling past two defenders, and blasting it in the net.
A hand ball call on the Crimson in the 81st minute gave Spicer a chance on the penalty kick, and he easily scored his team-high 11th goal of the season.
Harvard added an insurance goal in the 86th minute when Michael Fucito fed Jeffery Chivers on the right side. Chivers fired a shot low to the left post to beat White and ice the game.
Princeton returns to Lourie-Love Field on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. to take on St. Peter's.
