PRINCETON - The heavyweight men's 8, the women's open 8, the heavyweight men's 4, the lightweight men's 4 and the women's 4 were all winners on Lake Carnegie last weekend as the Princeton crews continued their impressive fall with a dominant effort at the Princeton chase.
Following a big weekend at the Head of the Charles, Princeton welcomed more than 300 boats from 22 different schools to its own Lake Carnegie for a beautiful Sunday of racing. Fans who lined the bridges overlooking the course got to watch another dominant Tiger effort.
The Heavyweight 4 took two of the top three spots, including a first-place finish by the Princeton 'A' boat (15:43.23). The 'E' boat came in behind Navy in 16:04.16.
The Heavyweight 8 saw a nearly 20-second victory for the Princeton 'A', which came in at 13:57.50. Navy was the only other boat that finished in less than 14:24, and that was still well behind the Tiger 'A' boat.
The men's lightweight four won in 16:14.22, topping a slew of boats that will undoubtedly challenge the Tigers for the 2005 Eastern crown. Georgetown, Harvard, Cornell and Columbia were among the many boats that finished behind Princeton. The men's lightweight 8 saw a different result, as Harvard cleared past Cornell to win in 14:10.68. The Princeton 'A' boat finished in eighth.
The women swept the open eight and the open four to build off the great momentum it built in both the 2004 Eastern championship win and a strong performance at the Head of the Charles. The Open 4 won in 17:09.36, topping the Syracuse 'A' boat by more than 25 seconds. The Open 8 was also dominant (16:01.31), topping Ivy rival Yale by more than 18 seconds in winning its race.
