PRINCETON - The No. 8-ranked Princeton women's hockey team (3-2-1 overall; 2-2-0 ECACHL) will travel to Erie, Pa., for a two-game set against Mercyhurst (6-2-2 overall; 3-0-1 CHA) this weekend. Last season, Princeton split the series at home, losing the opener 4-2 before recording a 3-0 shutout the next day.
The Tigers are coming off a 3-2 win against No. 9 Brown (4-2-0 overall; 3-1-0 ECACHL) and a 3-0 loss against No. 3 Harvard (3-1-1 overall; 3-1-0 ECACHL). Sophomores Alison Ralph and Laura Watt, along with freshman Brittany Salmon, scored a goal apiece to lead Princeton past Brown. Goaltender Roxanne Gaudiel tried to keep Princeton in the game with Harvard by making 24 saves. Through six games, the Tigers have been led by Watt, who has a team-high six points. Sophomore Kim Pearce, who earned Ivy League Rookie of the Year honors last season after scoring 10 goals and recording 22 points, has scored a team-high four goals on the season. Three other players, including sophomore Liz Keady, have scored five points.
Gaudiel has played well in net, recording an .899 save percentage and a 2.31 goals-against average on the young season. She has defeated two ranked teams, Providence and Brown, already this season.
Princeton will face Mercyhurst, which has been led this season by forward Teresa Marchese. She scored a team-leading sixth goal and third game-winning goal of the season against Niagara this past Saturday.
After the weekend set on the road, the Tigers return home to play Yale at Baker Rink on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
